Why You Should Avoid Letting Your Kids Watch "black Christmas" By: J Griffin
There was a strong reaction by many people to the violence in the 1974 movie "Black Christmas" when it first hit the theaters. It goes without saying that this movie is definitely not for the fainthearted. Even adults can have trouble dealing with the strong scenes of horror and gore the movie portrays. This hasn't stopped filmmakers from producing a remake of the film with a more modern twist however.
Released not too long ago, the remake of "Black Christmas" made a lot of critics react strongly to the timing of its release. There was a lot of controversy in the Christian communities to releasing such a violent movie on Christmas day. Their main argument for doing so was that film's producers are ruining the image of Christmas for so many children.
They were concerned that even though "Black Christmas" was rated R in the United States, there was still a lot of publicity and advertisements leading up to the release of the movie. Due to children's wild imaginations, many concerned parents were wary about the possibility that this sacred time of year would be tied to something evil or violent. This is the exact opposite portrayal most like to see at Christmas, as it is mostly celebrated as a time of love peace and harmony towards mankind. Tainting this view of the perfect Christmas is simply not a fair thing to do to our children.
Is It Fair to Ban Violent Movies Such as "Black Christmas" During the Holiday Season?
